The Words Without is a novel set in small-town America. The protagonist, Gabriel Downey, leaves his job, his apartment, and his girlfriend in New York City in a desperate attempt to restore some order to his life. He arrives in Stahling USA where his best friend from college lives. What follows during his stay of nearly a year is one misadventure after another as the sarcastic and somewhat misanthropic 29-year-old Mr.Downey becomes embroiled in the quirky legal, political and social affairs of this hilarious little American hamlet. The Words Without, with its intelligent, witty dialogue, unique thought-provoking characters, and bittersweet romances is well worth reading.
