Most of the 12 essays were originally presented as papers in sessions on Recent Approaches to Acts at international meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature in Rome in 2001 and Berlin in 2002. Though they adopt various reading strategies, they all involve situating Lukan narrative within the literary, social, and cultural world of antiquity. Among the topics are assessing new trends in Acts studies, the trial scene in the Greek novels and in Acts, Jesus as founder of the church in Luke-Acts, A Greco-Roman context for Acts 14, Roman propaganda and Christian identity in the worldview of Luke-Acts, historical intertexture and oral history, and gender and genre. The Society of Biblical Literature published the book and distributes the paperbound edition; Brill distributes the clothbound edition. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
