De Troyer (Hebrew Bible, Claremont School of Theology, California) describes an activity undertaken by the faithful since the time the words that would become Scripture were first written down. The dichotomy between biblical and non-biblical texts, she says, is false, because the biblical text itself is often nothing else than a rewritten text.
