Socrates in the Light of Modern Psychopathology

The theme of this work introduces the psychoanalytic process by manipulating Socratic principle to help a patient understand that true integrity relies on knowledge, and knowledge is the foundation of moral behavior. Socrates was the first philosopher to weigh man's action on the scale of subjectivity. In outlining the two parts of the mind--instinctive and conscious--Karpas shows how self-knowledge is a conscious procedure contributive to human happiness. He continues by suggesting that those who do not understand what they are doing find that they elect unhappy options. Impaired by these choices they develop disabling habits and continue their lives in dishonor and humiliation. By using Socrates' technique to elucidate real discovery, a patient, through personal investigation, ascertains success and joy and an awakened spirit.
