The Falcon of Andalusia

This is the story of Abd al-Rahman ibn Mu’awiya ibn Hisham, a prince of the Umayyad house of Abu Sufyan and his escape from the clutches of the Abbasids during their violent takeover of power in Damascus in 750 AD.

It is a story full of adventure, bravery, tragedy and amazing feats.

After five years on the run from Abbasid assassins, Abd al Rahman arrives in Andalucía, without an army and only equipped with his wits and courage, and a faithful friend, his former Greek slave Badr, to establish the 300-year Umayyad dynasty in Spain. An amazing feat by any historical standards

His five-year experience on the run from assassins builds his character and develops in him the attributes of the great leader he is later to become.

This is the story of a great historical figure and his unusual journey towards his destiny. The Umayyad dynasty which Abd al Rahman created was later called “The Golden Age of Spain”.
