The work is chronological, following this distinguished brigade from the beginning of the War in 1861 through General Lee's surrender at Appomattox in April 1865. The author narrates the battles in which they participated, including Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Savage Station, Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Knoxville, The Wilderness, and Cold Harbor.
