Dana Jones' Jezebel, The Autobiography of a Love Addict, is based on a professed love addict's life as told through the words of the main character, Jezebel Porter.
Set in the Bronzeville area of Chicago in the late 1940s, it tells the story of Jezebel, the daughter of Carline, a woman who wasn't too pleased to bring a child into the world under deceptive conditions; alongside an already added responsibility from Carline's past that redirected her love and attention. Affected by a history of detailed checkered familial circumstances, Jezebel is taught to teach herself life's lessons-lessons taught by episodes of domestic violence, deception, promiscuity, motherhood, marriage, and continued transformation. Jezebel is insightful, reflective, and even poetic as she attempts to understand her journey as a love addict.
At every stage of Jezebel's life, she has to battle the process of growing up as a love addict. She vacillates between the trials of being the victim of her own self-ignorance and the triumphs of victory and accomplishment. She loves, she hurts, but most importantly, she survives, transitioning, provoking necessary changes accordingly.
Jezebel is for the mature reader, as the content is racy and graphic; yet, everyone will find some commonality with Jezebel. Why? Everyone has a lesson in love inside of them...
