Catholic Mission and Culture in Colleges and Universities: Defining Documents: 1965-2014

How can colleges and universities be a fruitful place of encounter between the Gospel and culture? What is the mission of the Church in higher education? Expanding on the 2006 book entitled Catholic Identity in Our Colleges and Universities, this updated collection of defining documents helps answer such questions. These conciliar, canonical, papal, and curial documents, including Gravissimum Educationis, Sapientia Christiana and Ex Corde Ecclesiae, express the universal Church's vision For higher education. The documents from the bishops of the United States give guidance and direction amid the Church's achievements, challenges, and aims in American higher education. These texts will help prepare "men and women in the search of truth and in service to the Church and society" (Archbishop George Lucas, Chairman of the Committee on Education).
