Modern Visual Poetry

Devoted to poetry that is designed for the viewer as much as for the reader, Modern Visual Poetry covers the entire twentieth century, from the initial experiments by Guillaume Apollinaire to those by various Concrete poets and members of the Lettrist movement. In attempting to derive a visual poetics, the book concentrates on materials written in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Catalan. Through the detailed analysis of selected examples, it examines the theoretical assumptions underlying this fascinating art form.
