Somewhere between New York State and Connecticut lies a crack between our world and a parallel human reality known as Hortishland. Today, emissaries from Hortishland regularly walk unrecognized amongst us, showing us new ways of thinking and living. But it wasn't always that way. Before they could venture into our reality, Hortishlanders had to surmount the challenges of perfecting themselves and restoring their realm.
This charming mystical adventure tale begins when the narrator meets Larso, an emissary from Hortishland. Larso reveals that the Hortish people call her Phtef, which means "One Who Cares," and have selected her to write their story. The result is "Hortishland" a chronicle of how the Hortish people have been struggling to fulfill their urgent mission: to save the Earth from destruction.

"Hortishland" describes the travails and triumphs of Darsa and Gerran and their family. Under the tutelage of celestial beings, magical beasts, and a mythic burden from their own deep past, the family sets out from its home in the village of Dream to find the lost Rock of Knowing. En route, they must fulfill a difficult task and undergo the transformative inner experience called the Eclady. If they succeed, their efforts and sacrifices will enable all of Dream, and eventually all of Hortishland, to reclaim its heritage and fulfill its purpose of saving Earth. If they fail, the future of our world will remain in jeopardy.
