The Threat of the White Man

After the American Revolution and the start of his administration, George Washington sends an invasion army under General Josiah Harmer into the lands of the Shawnee and Miami people. Little Turtle, chief of the Miamis, and Blue Jacket, chief of the Shawnees, create an alliance of many formerly hostile tribes to counteract American aggression.

Sun Eagle is a Lakota tribal leader sent by his people to determine if what is happening on the far side of the Mississippi threatens Lakota safety. He and his wife Morning Star, and their son Vine, travel to the Miami and Shawnee homelands and quickly become entangled in helping in their defense.

Carter Harrison is the scion of a wealthy Virginia slaveholder who becomes General Harmer's aide-de-camp. He brings with him Cyrus, his slave, who aspires to become free, even if it means joining the tribespeople in defending their homes and families.
