Paula’s Perilous Adventure is a comical adventure for children ages 6 and up. It mirrors life, and illustrates over 30 practical values that can lay the groundwork for success later in life.
It is in two forms. 1) The basic book, and 2) An enhanced eBook that contains a short animated movie for each page. This version is only the basic book without videos. A short poem is included every page that makes the adventure fun to read. In the enhanced version you can press a button after you read each page, and the story comes to life in animated movie form. The enhanced version is probably the most advanced interactive children’s book today.
And So It Begins...
From the outer fringe of the Milky Way, Captain Opto and his two sons pilot their spacecraft towards Earth. On a quest from the Perfect Planet, they search for a world where the Captain can fulfill his lifelong dream-- he wants to be a Teacher. There are just no beings to teach on a perfect planet. He has an inborn desire to share and improve children’s lives.
With the aid of a navigational crystal, the Fountain of Knowledge, he locates three troubled runaways fleeing dysfunctional families: Paula, an Australian Koala ‘girl", and Calvin with his dog, Loui, who live in suburban Chicago. Paula and Calvin met each other on the Internet while chatting about their interest in hot air ballooning. As they became ‘Net pals, they found they had even more in common. That's when they devised a plan to escape the unhappiness of their daily lives and balloon to a Pacific island to begin an ideal life. They did not realize the danger they faced in meeting someone in person that they met over the internet. This is the first of over 30 life values that they experience and learn from in the adventure. That you should never go off and meet someone you do not know from the internet!
After a wondrous journey fraught with peril, they arrive in their separate balloons. Their arrivals, however, do not go as planned. Their foolish desire to meet from the internet begins to backfire.
Both have unexpected accidents and almost perish. After these severe challenges, they finally meet Captain Opto who introduces himself as Mentor. He morphs into human form to be accepted by the children students.
Ultimately they find shelter and build a fire. Mentor guides them through their initial survival challenges-- not the least of which is avoiding starvation.
Meanwhile, Loui, Calvin's dog, meets a new friend, - a dog that was left on the island when a pirate ship wrecked years ago.
Calvin, Paula and Mentor continue to address the daily battle for survival and discuss the challenges of life. They battle starvation and are forced to withstand yet another violent tropical storm.
Loui, it seems, has a dream of his own. He runs off to find happiness with his newfound friend.
They finally have to consider the possibility of dying on this island-- the place they had previous imagined to be so ideal.
And when one of their members meets an untimely, accidental death, they learn the meaning of grief and renewal.
Surprised by the death of a cherished friend, they've now faced one of life's greatest challenges, and are introduced to Hope.
The castaways are now beginning to miss their homes and families. They have gone through many trials and learned many valuable lessons.
Mentor knows that the children are disillusioned with their quest. He goes out to the beach to scout for a rescue ship.
Instead, he sees a pirate ship pull into the bay. He knows they aren't returning just to retrieve the dog they left behind. No, it must be something even more valuable to them.
He returns to the children and they all search for safe places in which to hide. While looking for a place no one would ever think to look, Calvin discovers the pirate’s treasure!
Now the ultimate challenge befalls the Mentor. How can he get the children off the island?
He realizes that he has no Earthly resources available to help them. What can he do to rescue them?
The end will certainly surprise you!
