That Night at Surigao is a blend of thousands of pages of primary source documentation from records of three battleships, a 3-year long diary kept by a Navy Lieutenant, and memoirs. It collates ships' records with diary and memoir to create a 'diary-within-a-diary', matching the history of the battleships with the history of several individuals. It reduces the naval war in the Pacific to the level of the individual and gives the reader a close idea of what life was like aboard a battleship at war. It follows all the major battles from Tarawa to Okinawa. Also included in the back of the book is the book "USS Virginia Crosses the Equator Again." 258 pages w/many vintage photos
