Passing on the Torch - Essays by Yuping Li

This prose collection gathers her work from more than ten years ago. Her pen records her opinions and visions towards different countries and eras, history, cultures, religions and politics.

Gautama Buddha once said: "bliss is a lighted torch that may be distributed to ever so many candles, yet the torch itself will remain burning ever the same". Literature is precisely the mission to distribute such fire. When I first read Li's work, it was awesome. Go on writing, you youngster! Though this career is not eternal, but it surely delivers the longing for eternity. And with this, it is enough.

Li's writing is a representation of pure Chinese in that she weaves the strings of classic and modern literature intricately, offering a breath of fresh air different to popular writing. Her works present a unique perspective to provoke critical thinking. Truly this is something rare in my multi-decade long editing career, so rare that some of the pieces should be collected into our secondary school textbook.
