Jeffrey Shenero is a professor of microbiology who occasionally serves as a consultant with the health department. An expert in his field, he's blindsided by a lawsuit when he investigates a family's home and fails to find black mold. As he fights to defend his reputation and his livelihood, he becomes embroiled in a national scandal involving a teacher who claims to be the victim of a mold-infested school building -- and encourages her students to do the same.
