Reading Literary Text, Grade 2

Help your second-grade students build strong literary analysis and comprehension skills with activities that support Common Core rigor in the areas of Key Ideas and Details, Craft and Structure, and Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity.

Each of the 9 units provides literary text in a variety of genres such as poetry, folk tale, realistic fiction, and classic fiction, as well as supporting activities that are easy to scaffold, including:

• Vocabulary: Picture dictionary with content and academic vocabulary
• Analyze and discuss: “I Read Closely,” “I Read and Understand,” and an oral close reading activity
• Learn and apply: “Words I Know” and “I Read a Fable” (genre activity)
• Respond: “I Think About the Plot” and “I Can Write”
