Orders and judgments in matrimonial matters may be enforced generally in the same manner as other civil judicial determinations. In most instances, enforcement may be obtained by application to the matrimonial court by motion, petition, or order to show cause. In addition to applications for specific enforcement of a prior determination or for other injunctive relief, there are a number of other methods by which a party to a family law proceeding may enforce a prior determination, such as attachment, wage garnishment, sequestration, and contempt proceedings. Federal law also directly facilitates the recovery of child support. Mastering Legal Matters: Quick Guide to Enforcement of Family Law Court Orders addresses the various means available for enforcing determinations made in matrimonial proceedings.
