Evolution: its History, its Evidences, and its Relation to Religious Thought

Published in 1888, Evolution delves into an argument between the natural sciences and religious institutions which remains heated to this day. LeConte was a professor, physician, and geologist primarily, although he spoke and wrote about many topics and was, in his day, a primary proponent and explicator of evolutionary biology from it’s earliest manifestation. Rich and thoughtful, this work attempts to address and engage the real questions developing between these two ever-increasingly divergent modes of human belief rather than shuffle one or the other under the proverbial rug, harking back to a less somehow less-polarized age.
