Purported by novelist J. W. Buel to be a biography of the historical James Butler Hickok taken from Hickok’s diary and Buel’s personal experiences with the man, Life and Marvelous Adventures of Wild Bill is most likely a fictionalized account of one of America’s first mythological figures. Nonetheless, the novel is a rollicking tale of Wild West exploits where fact and fiction combine.
