Purgatory is the second part of renowned poet Dante Alleghieri’s epic masterpiece, the Divine Comedy. Mount Purgatory is the place where the saved go to await judgement and work on the transmutation of their life’s sins. In the poem, Dante and his companion and guide, the great Greek poet Virgil, travel up the mountain to reach the summit and gain entrance into Heaven.
