The author explores various social disparities, including her own, acknowledging that adolescent pregnancies do not cause poverty, but poverty is a number one factor that causes an adolescent pregnancy. The book shares stories of teen and adolescent parents and seeks to find out how this population segment of a community can escape the stigma of teen pregnancy and teen parenting in one's lifetime

The book continues by demonstrating the many faces, causes and affects of poverty, associated with being a single and teenaged-parent, child abuse, child neglect, community problems, conflict, and crime and concludes that a family linage of poverty can last as long as life and as long as one hundred years equating to ten generations.
