In first experience with "The Life of Abraham Lincoln," Henry Ketcham noticed that there has been such a great amount of expounded on Lincoln that the legend has started to darken, if not to destroy, the man. "In this life story the single reason has been to give the living man such peculiarity of diagram that the reader may have a kind of believing of being familiar with him." Ketcham's obviously composed, unadorned record of Lincoln's life accomplishes its expressed reason, never expelling its concentration from the man who turned into the sixteenth President of the United States and drove the country through some of its most turbulent and troublesome circumstances.
