1916 in 50 Objects

The Easter Rising in 50 Objects reveals the story of 1916 in a new and unique way. Using fifty objects that bore silent witness to the Rising, it tells the story of the rebellion's origins, the events of the week, the people involved and the aftermath. Some of these objects will be familiar, others less so, such as the cricket bat that died for Ireland, a book that took a British bullet in Marsh's Library and the biscuits given to Kathleen Lynn and her fellow inmates in Ship Street Barracks. By exploring the stories attached to these artefacts, John Gibney provides a fresh perspective on 1916 and casts light on some of its less well-known aspects.
