Ives (politics, U. of Winnipeg) provides an interdisciplinary introduction to the ideas and writings of Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937). He takes language as an entry point because it has become such a central topic within political, social, and cultural history since Gramsci's death; and because he believes that Gramsci's interest in the politics of language was a defining influence on his entire thought.
