Sustainable Urban Transport

The concerns over the sustainability of transport and mobility in urban areas is set to increase as cities grow bigger and economies demand faster and more efficient access. Conflicts arise between the demands of economic growth and the impacts on the environment and subsequently on health. Embedding the concepts of sustainability in the planning and programming of transport infrastructures in cities will determine the quality of life of citizens, which in turn will impact on city management, competitiveness and growth. This volume brings together a number of scholars from Europe and beyond to discuss various aspects and ease studies related to sustainable urban transport. Whilst some chapters provide support for policy making, other chapters assess projects implemented in various cities and provide knowledge about best practice. The editors hope that this volume contributes to the existing knowledge on sustainable urban transport and contributes to make it a reality in cities worldwide.
