Through a Glass Brightly: Studies in Byzantine and Medieval Art and Archaeology Presented to David Buckton

For about a quarter century, Buckton served as an Assistant Keeper in the British Museum and focused on the Early Christian and Byzantine collections. Colleagues and other admirers offer 25 essays to his honor. They consider such topics as body-chains from Hellenistic to Late Roman, visualizing women in Late Antique Rome through the Projecta casket, early Byzantine mercantile communities in the west, Saint Theodore and the Dragon, the Bristol Psalter, two enameled mounts from the Celtic fringe, design and invention in Gothic architecture as expressed at Mildenhall and Ely, and a Venetian goblet made for the Paris Exhibition of 1878 with gold leaf medallions of Early Christian martyrs.
