A Gentleman of Enterprise

It is 1814. Napoleon is safely incarcerated on the Island of Elba and, after 20 years of almost continuous war, peace comes at last to Europe.

Giles Fletcher, an Oxford theology student, has just received his degree. Sadly he has considerable doubts as to his suitability for the priesthood and when, to his delight, he is offered a job at the British Consulate in Brussels, he takes it. Never in his wildest dreams could he have envisaged the adventures into which his job will lead him.
