Nicholas C. Denson (1841-1929) left his home in south Arkansas in 1861 to fight in the Civil War. Over the next four years, he fought in several important battles, including the Second Battle of Manassas, Sharpsburg, and Gettysburg. He was also present at Appomattox Courthouse when Robert E. Lee surrendered to U.S. Grant. He returned to Arkansas and became a Baptist minister and spent the rest of his life preaching and founding churches in the southern part of the state.

Edited and compiled by his great-grandson Dillard Denson, M.D., this book contains N. C. Denson's reminiscences about his life, as well as information about his family.
