Kora a member of the Thieves Guild on the heavy planet Errin steals the planets symbol, the Rik, after he and his friends had been offered fifteen million credits if they could deliver the Rik secretly to the large trading corporation on the planet Brauron. The Intergalactic Groupo Federale had been denied a trading license for Errin. The Rik is a non sentient living organism that appears to be a gem that changes humans brains. No human has ever survived their minds alterations. The theft is discovered and Kora and his friends are hunted by Errinian Security forces. They escape to Brauron, and ice planet where they retreat into the Icelands. There they join the Outlanders, exiled miners force to live in hiding by the corporation which holds the trading license for Brauron. They are joined by the indigenous S'kw who are being used as slaves to mine the "Toxi". Jointly they rebel against the corporation and by default the Republic.
