Post-Human Condition: The Imaginary Membrane

Noting that most of literature on contemporary Algeria has focused on political crisis, Majumdar (U. of Portsmouth, UK) and Saad (U. of the West of England, UK) present 12 papers that examine other more neglected aspects of change in Algerian society from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Those papers examining economic policy and change touch on the privatization process, the role of accounting in Algerian economic transition, and the proper organizational elements and learning mechanisms for managing economic change. The next two papers discuss the effect of social change on women's lives, as well as their role in the development process. Issues of culture, ideology, and language are dealt with in papers on the contemporary relevance of Frantz Fanon, shifts in Algerian identity, and changing languages policy in Algeria. Finally, the position of Algeria in the global economy is considered in contributions discussing Algerian football (soccer) as a cultural, political, and economic vehicle; tourism and development; and petroleum investment.
