Global Technological Change: From Hard Technology to Soft Technology

Originally published in 2002 in Chinese, this work introduces the idea of soft technology, defined as "knowledge derived from the social sciences, non-natural sciences and non-scientific (traditional) knowledge to solve various practical problems." Jin (director, Center for Technology Innovation and Strategy Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences) elaborates on the concept and explores how it can be harnessed in service of social and economic development, particularly in the case of China. She explores how incorporating the concept of soft technology can be used in the training and education of workers, industrial development plans, and the creation of national competitiveness.
