Exchange and Cultural Interactions: A Study of Long-Distance Trade and Cross-Cultural Contacts in the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in Central and Eastern Europe

An interpretation of patterns of trade, exchange and cultural contact, based on theoretical ideas and archaeological evidence, across Germany, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and eastern Switzerland. Andrzej Pydyn looks at the different social values attached to particular traded objects, the role of competition and conspicuous consumption in influencing these values and affecting demand. Finally the evidence is collated and general modes and models of exchange, especially long-distance exchange, are outlined for the transitional period between the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age.
