A detailed discussion of the engraved schist plaques found at a series of open-air sites at Saut-du-Perron in eastern France. 182 examples of plaques engraved with both naturalistic and abstract images are described and illustrated. After discussion of the assemblages itself, the finds are placed within the context of the Late Magdalenian period and then palaeolithic art in general.
