Morning retells the Easter story from the point of view of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Much of the story takes place early on Easter Sunday morning, when Mary is sitting, waiting to go to the tomb to anoint Jesus' body. She has in her hands the myrrh given to her by the wise men. As she sits, she recalls her story, the part she has played in God's plan. But her son is dead and she doesn't know what to say to God - where is God's salvation now? At the tomb, the women realise something is wrong. As the others rush off to find out more and to tell Jesus' friends, Mary is left in the garden. And then she realises what has happened. The Gospels do not tell us of Mary's reaction, or indeed how Mary discovered that her son was alive again, but this reimagined story helps those who know the Easter story well, engage with the story anew...as well as opening up the story to those who may never have heard it before.
