This is the first book written in English to describe and analyze demographic and socioeconomic developments in Syria within the framework of demographic developments taking place throughout the Middle East during the later 20th-century. During the last seventy-five years, the Syrian population has increased almost twelve-fold; one of the highest rates in the Middle East.
