Visions and Voices: Conversations with Fourteen Caribbean Playwrights

Presenting a compilation of interviews conducted from the late 1970s into the early 1980s, this study spotlights the Caribbean theater in its most productive and revolutionary period. Featuring the words of the most important of the first generation of postcolonial playwrights—few of whom are still alive—this exploration touches on their experiences of working in the Caribbean while struggling to survive as artists, relationship between their work and the region's socio-political condition, and attempts to develop a Caribbean theater aesthetic. With an introduction that places these interviews in the perspective of subsequent developments in Caribbean theater, this is an invaluable reference on the artistic evolution of this particular region.
