They did have their away-day. Leaving home as usual for the eight-fifteen train to Waterloo they spent the intervening hours discovering and re-discovering parts of London they never had time to visit. Once, back on the six forty-five to Guildford that evening, they unanimously agreed they must do it again.
The taste of freedom had been too much and they wanted more. Excuses were concocted and they made preparations for four days of freedom in Paris, but the euphoria was to be short-lived. What began as a light-hearted trip rapidly turned into something quite different. Those days in Paris stretched out interminably after they were set-up by a drugs gang; resulting in the involvement of the police on both sides of the channel and their earlier easy friendship disintergrated. Throughout all of this potentially dangerous experience, not one of them realised how close they were to losing everything.
Ferry terminals, railway stations and commuters travelling on the Guildford line will never be the same again after reading this book!
