There is no closure for the hole in your life left by a lost child - or is there?

That is the tragedy that deepens every day for Mary and Jimmy Mulligan when Jimmy takes their two-year-old son, Sean, up the road to play on the swings one ordinary Sunday in Stepney. Their marriage poisoned by reproach, forced to contend with press harassment and callous speculation that they are the killers, no one would think life could get worse.

Simon Martins has the mind of a two-year-old boy. That's the only reason he likes playing with children but, when the witch-hunt finds him in the wrong place at the right time, is any jury willing to believe him?

Will anybody else believe it is Sean Mulligan who has turned up five thousand miles away in Chicago, where the lack of evidence for any murderer is the least of anyone's troubles?
