Ben Sharkey loves his wife Charlie, even though he can't name the colour of her hair. He is in love with her sister Dory, splicing his days with thoughts of her, thoughts upon which he will never act. Their student days at Norwich had changed him, changed them all: he, of course, but poor damaged Heather, Roger, there but never there, crazy Pete with his prank telephone calls, beautiful angry Saj and his minor keys, and then Dory, ratty blonde hair, crooked teeth and those ragged black fingerless gloves. Or perhaps Norwich hadn't changed Dory at all.
