Rocks Don't Cry

The Second World War has ended and people are finding out about being civilians again. In one such town, the biggest farmer in the district is chairman of the council who aims to take over a council house for a new employee. But one of the sisters affected is head teacher of the local school. Soon the whole community becomes involved – from local drunk to Methodist minister and even council staff. It leads to the siege of the house, with tragic consequences, though there are laughter and tears along the way. This was all in East Anglia, but could have happened anywhere in the rural heartland of England.
