This dictionary of 17th-century British philosophers construes "philosophy" as wide in scope including not just logic, metaphysics, ethics and epistemology, but those many aspects of religion, politics, mathematics and science that are of philosophical importance.

There are entries for over 400 figures: Bacon, Hobbes and Locke, as well asd Digby, Cudworth and Glanvill. But there are also entries on John Lilburne the leveller, Robert Ferguson "the potter" and Thomas Tyron, an early vegetarian.
