Off-Screen: Four Young Artists in the Middle East

Off Screen is an artistic record of a year-long journey across the Middle East that four young British artists took in 2002-03. Each double-page spread in the book stands as an individual artwork capturing the modern face of Middle Eastern society. These tactile reflections of form and color, layered with Persian and Arabic iconography, are interwoven with diary extracts and ephemera to communicate a kinetic, visually rich, deliberately subjective record and fascinating portrait of cultural identity in the 21st century.

Author Bio: Al Braithwaite, Henry Hemming, Stephen Stapleton, and Georgie Weedon are artists who share a curiosity about the Middle East and a belief in making art "on location."
