In this fourth book published by Niace for Pascal respected policy-makers, practitioners and researchers come together to demonstrate, in a wide variety of settings, how new initiatives to create learning cities and regions can improve dialogue between the practice and research communities.

Its focus is on three related areas: the economic aspects of lifelong learning in cities, regions and communities; the social and community aspects of lifelong learning in cities, regions and communities; and networking, intelligence and resource aspects of lifelong learning in cities, regions and communities.

In demonstrating the productive outcomes of knowledge transfer, the book should serve to encourage those in local, regional and national government, and in practice-leading roles, to develop solutions to the ever changing challenges of regional economic, social and environmental renewal. The productive sharing and application of knowledge represented in these reflections based on research, and drawn from practical experience, will aid that process.
