Caravanserai

In this collection of interviews that were first done in 1993 with Australian Muslims, the human face of these people from diverse backgrounds and cultures is shown. Ten years later, in the wake of September 11 and the Bali bombing, the same people are revisited and found living in the shadow of the wider community’s hostility. This compilation shows that Australia has shifted from the welcoming caravanserai that was originally envisaged to a place that many Australian Muslims no longer see as safe for their families.
