Author Biography: B. H. V. Topping is a professor of computational mechanics at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is the editor of the International Journal of Computers & Structures and of Advances in Engineering Software. Z. Bittnar is a professor and the head of the structural mechanics department at the faculty of civil engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic.
