Kalamazoo: Rivers of Michigan Series

The Kalamazoo River of southern Michigan rises in the Irish Hills and flows gently westerly until it exits into Lake Michigan near Saugatuck. On the way it passes through Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, and many smaller towns with big histories. In this volume there are chapters on the meaning of "Kalamazoo," hydropower developments and the environmental concerns that once caused the river to be known as the "sewer of West Michigan." There is also a mile by mile trip giving the story of the settlements on its banks illustrated with many old maps and postcards.
