This book is a collection of selected columns that I have written over more than twenty years for the Daily Journal, the local newspaper for Johnson County, Indiana. As I am a multicultural person, these columns reflect my unique point of view. I was born in China, raised in Taiwan, and then, in 1965, came to this country for graduate school. For most of the past forty years, I taught at Franklin College. My academic training and teaching are in law and politics. These two disciplines deal with human affairs. With my personal and academic background, each time I observe a certain phenomenon, I am compelled to learn why such phenomena occur. In 2003 ... I published American Society through Confucian Eyes. With this book, An Immigrant's Journey to the West: Confucianism and Americanism, I hope to reach an even larger audience to share with them my unique perspective of the world.”Yu-long Ling, PhD
