One Step from Normal

In 1955, thirteen-year-old Stephanie Turner comes home from summer camp bursting with happy memories. When she awakes the next morning, her back and legs are stiff, her head pounds, and excruciating pains burn through her whole body. Questions whir around in her head like an out of control carousel stuck on fast speed. Is this polio, the dreaded disease she has heard so much about? Was it her fault she caught it? Will her friends catch it too because of her, especially her new friend, Randy? This same year, Dr. Jonas Salk invents a vaccine to prevent polio, but not in time to help Stephanie.
