Every soul is a traveler that is destined for many lives and deaths. How many lives we live all depends on how much living it takes us to earn our wings. Few souls are born to the living world less than three times, but there are rare exceptions.
The Apparition Committee has placed their bets on Cau Chin finishing his life cycles on his second attempt in the living world. Cau is one of those resilient people who thrives amidst adversity, and this is fortunate for him since he is serving time at Dayan Labor Camp in Ziyang, China.
But not all souls are toughened by their tests in life. Some are broken. These shell-shocked spirits opt for solitary confinement in the shadowy corners of the Spirit Realm.
Such is the case of Amal, who for the past year has been locked in the Utica Crib. Back and forth she rocks in a coffin-like cage that hangs from iron chains in an abandoned asylum. Amal is the most intriguing case ever reviewed by the Apparition Committee. Despite the fact that she has earned her wings, she has chosen not to wear them.
