Guilty is as funny, frightening, and real as our own fantasies.

Guilty is a comic/erotic thriller about Jack, a successful and famous gay actor and activist. He's also an erotic outlaw. Cassidy is an ex-hustler with extreme tastes, especially for masochistic sex. After one of their many ill-fated dates Cassidy is strangled, raped and left for dead. He survives.

The police question Jack, but he is not charged: the assault is never solved. A beautiful Innuit boy becomes Jack's next lover, but he can't get Cassidy, or the police, out of his life.

Things only get worse when Cassidy is killed.

The question, for Gilbert, is simple: Is Jack guilty? Or are you?

In his first novel, Sky Gilbert explores the fine line between motive and action, between ethics and evil, and asks whether feeling responsible for the world's problems can actually lead to murder. Writer, filmmaker, actor, and drag queen extraordinaire, Sky Gilbert is one of Canada's most controversial artistic forces. He was born in Norwich, Connecticut in 1952. Since 1965, he has lived Toronto, Ontario. He is a co-founder and artistic director of Toronto's Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. For 18 years Gilbert has written and directed his own hit plays, including The Dressing Gown, Pasolim/Pelost and Capote at Yaddo.

As a director, his list of credits is extensive. In 1987 he directed Anything Goes and Wilde's Salome for the Shaw Festival. In 1985 he received the Pauline McGibbon award for directing; he also received two prestigious Dora awards for his plays The Whore's Revenge and Suzi Goo: Private Secretary. His works have been produced in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Phoenix, Vancouver and Montreal.
